About the Weekend

The Star Hampshire Traditional Music & Dance Weekend is an annual weekend celebrating our New England   traditions of lively fiddle tunes and country dance.

We are fortunate to be carrying on a living tradition: one that preserves the best of the old, but is constantly changing. Our traditions have been influenced by a wide variety of people who have come to live here: Canadians, both English and French; Irish, Scottish, Scandinavians and others.

These influences contribute to the rich program of the Weekend. Here are some of the highlights of this outstanding weekend of music and dance.

  • Lots of contra & square dancing.
  • Excellent music provided by two bands, including a staff concert.
  • Waltzing in the hotel lobby before breakfast.
  • English country dancing.
  • Scandinavian music.
  • A glorious place to spend a weekend.
  • Musicians' workshop, jam session.
  • Participatory service in the candlelit chapel.
  • Time to explore the island, and maybe even to swim although the water is rather cold.
  • A wonderful porch with rocking chairs facing out toward the ocean.
